Do you find this annoying in ex-s?

Something that's always irked me is that a lot of phobic people will change their views on the GLBT community as soon as they find out that someone they know is gay. While granted, I'm glad that they become accepting of it, but it really irritates me that that is all it would take. It seems selfish, to be honest, that they're fine thinking ity's wrong until it affects them personally. Why does it have to be someone they know personally for them to realize the torment that some of us go through? Isn't that just being picky with whom they should treat as human beings that are worthy of love?
