My Doctor prescribed zoloft 25mg but I immediately had a strong side effects.?

The ER doctor I had to see to told me not to take anymore. It was the first dose I had ever taken. How long does it stay in the body? Since it was the first dose ever the doctor said it was okay to stop. You can't get dependency on the first dose ever.
