Would this story setting be interesting?

I recently though of a new idea for a short story. I don't have the whole plot figured out yet, but its set in a futuristic post-apocalyptic world. The story would follow a group of kids/teens in a small town a little while away fron a larger city. The civilization is set on an island/small continent, however the entire country is unknown to the rest of the world. There's a complex reason/back story that I don't really want to give away. But do you think that would be an interesting setting for a story? Obviously a setting like that is going to have a big impact on the plot.
